Enjoying the Outdoors a Bit

Looking back at the month of May, I think to myself, "Boy! We had a busy month!!". We were busy indeed but we appreciated every moment with each other and our families and every opportunity we had to spend some time outdoors. :)

We kicked off the month with my Aunt Nydia visiting us from Puerto Rico. She graciously made a stop in Houston on her way to visit a friend of hers in San Antonio. She was happy to finally meet Wyatt. In fact, she's the first one of all of my family in P.R. to ever meet Wyatt! Thanks for visiting us Titi Nydia! You are welcome to come back anytime!



My first Mother's Day was a special one indeed. Although Wyatt was in the womb last Mother's Day, this was the first official one. Wyatt made a nice card for me at daycare. I totally wasn't expecting that so I was very touched. I was also amazed at how big his foot had gotten! Haha. My dear hubby also gave me the most thoughtful card and then made me breakfast. :) We had a laid back day...went to church, hung out at the house, and grilled fajitas for dinner. Yum. Towards the end of the day, Brent was holding Wyatt and Wyatt just randomly starts waving at me for the first time. It was so adorable to see him do that. Especially on Mother's Day! Thanks boys, for an awesome day!



Since February, I had been planning a surprise birthday party for my youngest sister, Mercedes. She was turning the big 3-0 this year so I wanted it to be special. Little did she know that my mom, Noel, my older sister, and her boyfriend, Matt, were all flying in from Miami. And of course, we, as well as my brother, were driving in from Houston. With the help of her hubby, Joey, the family, and some of her close friends, we managed to plan the big event. She was surprised indeed.



My older sister, Natalie and I took her to get a manicure and pedicure to get her out of the house while everyone decorated, prepared the food, and showed up to the party.



Another nice surprise awaited her at the house: Her family and close friends wanting to celebrate her milestone birthday. She was genuinely surprised and ecstatic. Yay! Mission accomplished. :) Shots of the cake and some great family pictures below.

Speaking of big events... When we bought the house in December, we couldn't believe it was the only (and I mean ONLY) house in the neighborhood without a tree. Well, we knew right away that we would be getting at least one tree for the front yard. We took some time to think about it and Brent did some research and finally decided on an oak tree. That's what he grew up with after all, so it was fitting. Earlier in the month, we visited a live oak farm not too far from Houston (in Waller). It was quite an experience. It's not like picking out a Christmas tree that you can just get rid of after a few weeks. This is it! It had to be a good one! Picking out a live oak tree that was going to be in our front yard for the next who knows how many years was serious business!! Brent was in charge of this VERY important task. And he did great. Good job babe!

After looking around a bit, a tree finally 'calls' out to Brent. "That's the one", he said. We looked at a few others, just in case. But we ended up going back to this one and made it ours. So, the nice lady that was helping us marked it to make it official!



A couple of weeks later, they came, dug, and planted the tree. The front yard looks so much better and all the neighbors approve. :) Even Wyatt and the dogs approved. And now we really enjoy the outdoor view from the front part of the house. Now, let's just hope we don't kill it!!! Even though it's a couple of months away, the tree is a gift to Wyatt for his 1st birthday. Happy early Birthday, Wyatt!



We were able to fit in a sushi dinner with the Dudleys after the tree planting. Ahhhh....sushi! It had been a while! Wyatt was in a good mood that evening (probably had something to do with his exciting birthday gift). Or maybe because he was getting all the attention he wanted??



We have to continue to enjoy the outdoors while the weather is still nice...before it gets TOO hot. We found another opportunity. There was a band (Soulhat) that Brent wanted to watch and they were playing at Discovery Green (an outdoor park in downtown Houston) one Thursday evening so we thought we'd head out there to catch the show. Wyatt was a ham. He smiled at all the ladies around him. Most of the time, he just wanted to sit on the grass...not on the blanket (probably so he can get closer to the ladies). ;) Anyway, we were glad we went. He managed to stay up later than we expected!



Brent had planned a nice weekend getaway to Fredericksburg last year for our 1 year anniversary. Problem was, I was almost 8 months pregant and it was the end of June so that = WAY TOO HOT FOR A PREGNANT WOMAN. Definitely didn't seem like a romantic getaway. We cancelled the trip and hoped to reschedule for a later time. Well, we finally did. We headed over to Fredericksburg for one weekend this month and really had a great time. We were able to thoroughly appreciate the outdoors...it was hot, but not as hot as we expected it to be.

Below, some random shots from the trip. I thought the first one was cute and funny...Wyatt imitating his daddy reading a magazine. Then, Wyatt tries a pickle for the first time. Classic face. For some reason, he kept eating it....and kept making the same face. Haha. I am proud of him for not giving up! Finally, having breakfast at a local coffee shop before our big adventure of the day.



There are many fun things to do while in Fredericksburg. A must is a visit to and also a hike up the Enchanted Rock (a short drive from town). We were prepared....that's what the carrier is for anyway, right? We made it all the way to the top and appreciated the views once we were up there. They were incredible...definitely worth the short hike.



Yes, it's naptime. Once again, we managed to plan an event during his naptime. Get used to it buddy! :) But apparently, he can sleep anywhere. He's got to be uncomfortable, right???



The Roots Music Series coincidentally kicked off while we were in Fredericksburg (different genres performing every month until September). It just so happened that the weekend we were there was Bluegrass night. Since Wyatt did so well when we went to Discovery Green, we decided to go. So we brought our lawn chairs and blanket to the Pioneer Museum outdoor grounds, kicked back, and listened to some good music. Wyatt enjoyed it. Maybe too much?? Daddy...he's a little young for that kind of beverage. ;)



We decided to take a detour and stop at the Pedernales Falls State Park on our way back to Houston on Sunday. Specifically, to swim in the Pedernales river. This was Wyatt's first official dip in the river. I knew the water would be cold and that he probably wouldn't like it but we thought we'd give it a try. Plus, it was hot and who doesn't want to take a dip in the river when it's hot??? We had breakfast first in Fredericksburg and then headed to the park.



Getting him ready first....staring out at the river. I don't think he's convinced. Then, getting his feet wet...oh no...not a very happy camper (look closely at his face). :(



Mommy takes over and eases him into it. At least he's much calmer now. But maybe he needs to eat first...he may be hungry.



So we took a break and fed him. He was 'happier' after he ate. But that didn't make the water warmer so he was back to not being a happy camper.



We took another break and daddy tried again. I think I saw him smile a few times. :) Ok...no more pictures...let's all enjoy the river together.

That was nice, wasn't it, Wyatt?? :) He's so tired by now....He was just content to be heading back to the car.



Oh yeah....exhausted from the sun and the water. Naptime just in time for our 4 hr drive back! Every parent appreciates this. :)



More guitar practice this month. Brent is not giving up but Wyatt really takes to it so that's not a problem. His little man is going to be a music star. Lol. Well, at the very least, he will learn to appreciate music. :)



Over Memorial weekend we had the opportunity to spend some time with our good friends Will and Roxanne, their son Joshua, Roxanne's brother and his wife, and our friend Leo. The boys are only 2 weeks apart and we've been wanting to get them together for a real playdate. The past playdates didn't count...they were more for me and Roxanne since the boys were much younger and slept most of the time. Haha. I think they enjoyed 'hanging out'. :) But the adults also had a playdate. We met up first at The Tasting Room and had some appetizers and wine before heading to Will and Roxanne's house (where we enjoyed some more wine while the boys played). :)



So, he's already had a dip in the river but he hasn't been in a pool....until Memorial Day weekend that is. We decided to head over to the Houstonian for most of the day on Sunday. We dropped Wyatt off at the nursery while we enjoyed a couples massage at the spa. It was a Mother's Day/Father's Day present to each other. It was very nice!!! Afterwards, we went to the pool for a bit and had lunch before picking Wyatt up. Once we picked him up we got him ready for the pool. He wasn't so sure about it at first but there were plenty of people around him to distract him so he wasn't terrified. He wouldn't smile for the camera...he was just preoccupied looking all around at all the different faces. Eventually, he actually started to enjoy it being in the pool itself. That's our boy! :) We hope to take him back again soon...to keep getting him used to it!

Overall, he's a very happy boy. He started clapping this month also so it's cute to see him doing that. I love to see him smile...I love his laugh...I love his 'talking'...I love his tenderness...I love each and every moment we have together. I love watching you grow, Wyatt!!!

Ahhhh... Maybe next month we can relax?? Haha. That'll be the day. I think Brent didn't really know what he was getting into when he married me. It's NONSTOP! Sorry baby. But I know we've had some great times so let's continue the active journey together! :)
